POLITEHNICA Bucharest Awards the Title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mihai Claudiu Covaliu

POLITEHNICA Bucharest awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mihai Claudiu Covaliu, President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, during a ceremony held at the Pitești University Centre.

The distinction recognises Mihai Covaliu's outstanding contribution to Romanian sport, the promotion of Olympic values and the international image of Romania. A former Olympic, World and European champion, he has demonstrated throughout his career the values of excellence, determination, discipline and fair play, while continuing to support and inspire new generations of athletes in his role as a leader of the Romanian Olympic movement.

The title was awarded following a proposal from the Faculty of Sciences, Physical Education and Informatics of the Pitești University Centre, in recognition of his contribution to promoting high performance and the values associated with sport and Olympic excellence.

The ceremony also highlighted the common values shared by academic and sporting excellence. Dedication, discipline, rigour, perseverance and the courage to overcome one's own limits are essential to achieving excellence, whether in research, technology, education or competitive sport.

By welcoming Mihai Covaliu among the honorary members of its academic community, POLITEHNICA Bucharest continues to celebrate outstanding achievements across disciplines and to provide students with inspiring examples of commitment and excellence.
