International Conference "The Path of Turkmenistan's Neutrality: 30 Years of Commitment to Peace and Stability"
POLITEHNICA Bucharest welcomed distinguished guests, diplomats, academics, and students to the international conference “The Path of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality: 30 Years of Commitment to Peace and Stability.” The event marked a historic anniversary - three decades since the international recognition of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, a core principle that continues to shape the nation’s foreign policy and diplomatic identity.
This celebration represented not only a reflection on Turkmenistan’s diplomatic achievements but also a valuable opportunity to deepen academic and cultural dialogue between Romania and Turkmenistan.
Opening Remarks: Strengthening Academic and Diplomatic Ties
The conference was officially opened by Rector Mihnea Costoiu, who emphasized POLITEHNICA University’s commitment to fostering international partnerships, intercultural dialogue, and academic diplomacy. His message reflected POLITEHNICA’s broader mission to serve as a platform for dialogue among nations and a contributor to peace-oriented academic initiatives.
H.E. Mr. Annamammet Annayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Romania, delivered an insightful address on the historical and contemporary significance of Turkmenistan’s neutrality policy.
For thirty years, this principle has guided the nation’s diplomatic approach, acting as a guarantee of peace, stability, and constructive cooperation both regionally and internationally.
The ambassador highlighted Turkmenistan’s role as an active promoter of peaceful dialogue, mediation, and balanced international engagement - values deeply aligned with global efforts to ensure lasting security and development.
Cultural Perspectives, Academic Insights, and Youth Perspectives
A special contribution was offered by Mrs. Margareta Aslan, Turkology and Oriental Studies specialist at Babeș-Bolyai University, who presented a scholarly report titled: “The Geopolitical Vision of Magtymguly Fragi: The Ideal of an Independent State in Harmony with Its Neighbors.”
Her presentation underscored the rich cultural and historical heritage of Turkmenistan and highlighted the profound philosophical foundations of peace and coexistence in the Turkmen intellectual tradition.
Representing the student community of POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Yhlas Jumageldiyev shared a passionate message on the importance of transmitting the values of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect to younger generations.
His intervention illustrated the strong bridge between academic environments and international cultural exchange, reminding participants that students play a crucial role in shaping the future of intercultural diplomacy.
Cultural Experience & Traditional Heritage
The official program concluded with an exhibition and a tasting of traditional Turkmen cuisine, offering guests the opportunity to experience the richness of Turkmen culture, hospitality, and artistic heritage.
