Fulbright

The Fulbright Program offers exchange opportunities to Romanian citizens - scholars, students and professionals - for study, research and teaching in the United States. These grants are supported by the U.S. and Romanian Governments and awarded through open merit-based competitions supervised by bi-national panels.

The Fulbright Student Program

The awards are offered to Romanian graduate students - for Master’s degree or research (non-degree) at accredited U.S. universities. The candidates are selected through open, merit-based competition to participate in quality graduate-level programs in any subject except clinical medicine. The program offers participants the opportunity to experience firsthand the U.S. higher education system, society and culture. Duration of grant is one academic year. The period of application is open from early February to early May.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

The awards are offered to Romanian professors, researchers and professionals for post-doctoral research and lecturing opportunities to U.S. universities. Applications are welcome from all fields of study with the exception of clinical medicine. Grant duration is three to six months. The period of application is open from early May to early November.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship

For mid-career professionals is offered to Romanian specialists with a demonstrated commitment to public service, in leadership positions, and at a point in their careers where they can fully benefit from a non-degree professional development program at U.S. academic institutions. Duration of grant is ten months. The period of application is open from late April to late June.

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Fellowship (SIR)

Offers opportunities to non-U.S. visiting scholars from different countries, including Romania, to teach at U.S. colleges and universities for one academic year. The Visiting Scholars in the SIR program are expected to contribute to internationalization of the programs and campus, assist with the development of curricula and faculty and support initiatives meant to diversify student and faculty experiences.

The Fulbright Schuman Awards

Are designed for EU citizens wishing to study, conduct research, or lecture on a topic relevant to U.S.-EU relations, EU policy, or EU institutions for periods of three to ten months at a U.S. institution. The results of eligible projects must be relevant to at least two EU member states. Prior to submitting their application, candidates must arrange their own placement at an accredited university, vocational training/professional institution, or independent research center in the U.S.

The Fulbright-RAF Scholar Award

Dedicated to Romanian academics from technical universities and faculties who wish to carry out a semester-long fellowship in residence for study and independent research, curriculum development, classroom observation and participation in community-based entrepreneurial activities.

The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program

A six-week professional development program in the United States for secondary-level teachers to take academic seminars at a host university, observe and share their expertise with U.S. teachers and students, and develop action plans to promote media literacy and critical thinking skills in their home schools, classrooms, and communities. Usually, the competition is announced late November/early December.

Study of the U.S. Institutes for European Student Leaders

A five-week academic program for undergraduate students. The Institutes are an all-expense paid program, including meals, transportation, accident and sickness insurance and incidental expenses.
