Semaine de la Francophonie Scientifique de l'Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie

UPB, in partnership with the l'Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), organized between September 21-24, 2021, Semaine de la Francophonie Scientifique, in hybrid format.
 
The event was organized for the first time in a university with the participation of more then 1000 representatives of member universities, representatives of diplomatic missions, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Presidency and the Government of Romania, international francophone agencies etc.
 
During the event took place:
 
🟢 Organization of the 18th Quadrennial General Assembly of the AUF, organized under the High Patronage of the Romanian President;
 
🟢 Re-election of the UPB Rector in the Board of Directors of AUF  2021-2025;
 
🟢Physical participation of 12 ministers of higher education and research at the Conference of Francophone Ministers;
 
🟢 Special Workshop - Scientific Francophonie in Romania;
 
🟢 Launch of the AUF Strategy 2021-2025, the White Paper (World Consultation on Scientific Francophonie) and the first edition of the AUF Scientific Workshops;
 
🟢 Celebrating the 60th anniversary of AUF.

During the AUF Semaine de la Francophonie Scientifique event, the UPB rector, Mr. Mihnea Costoiu, signed the UPB Excellence Scholarship collaboration Agreement with 5 ministers of higher education and research from the Frencophone States - Chad,  Central African Republic, Nigeria, Republic of Cape Verde and Mali.
 
 
On October 25, 2021, UPB hosted the event "30th Anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan – past, present and future” organised with the Embassy of Kazakhstan to Romania.

The conference was attended by officials of Parliament, members of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, as well as representatives of scientific, business and academic environment of the two states.

On October 14, 2021, UPB Rector, Mr. Mihnea Costoiu, participated at the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) CONGRESS 2021.

During the event, Mr. Costoiu highlighted the catalyst role of the universities in stimulating the response of other potential contributors to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in their local and national environments, at all levels, including the impact on government and the leaders' of key civil society interests.

The Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) is an initiative aiming the development of a collaborative platform between the universities from the Black Sea Region.
 
 
The UPB Rector, Mr. Mihnea Costoiu, has received the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Bangladesh, Mr. A.K. Abdul Momen. The delegation was led by His Excellency Mr. Daud Ali, Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Romania.

The discussions were focused on the opportunities of collaboration between Romanian and Bangladesh universities, as well as UPB scholarships.

During the meeting, the officials signed the Agreement of Cooperation “UPB Excellence Scholarship”. The UPB scholarship program offers financial support to Bangladesh students with above average academic achievements.
 
 
UPB researchers developed new nanofiber dressing with a strong antibacterial effect.

The dressing is biodegradable, so that at the end of use, it dissolves on the skin, the wound healing much faster.

One of the layers of the dressing is made with a high-performance 3D bioprinter, the only one of its kind in Europe. It is composed of several polymers with various properties: it prevents the appearance of pathogens, fixes the drug on the wound and accelerates skin regeneration.
 
EVENTS
 
On 27 October, 2021, University Politehnica of Bucharest and British Council Romania organized the event "The future of FameLab: increasing the quality of communication between researchers and society".
 
Since 2008, the FameLab programme in Romania has opened doors, connected and provided training opportunities for hundreds of STEM students and young researchers across the country, helping to shape a new generation of science communicators. UPB had the honor to host FameLab during its annual POLIFEST event.

FameLab International has reached 35 countries on all continents.
 
 
On 21 October, 2021, UPB participated in an Educational fair - Polytech Montpellier International Week - organized by our partners.

It was an opportunity to present our study programs to the French universities and students, as over the years these events have managed to attract a large number of international students.

The event was attended by some of the world’s leading international universities, colleges and business schools.
