On the 23rd of September, the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest opened its doors for 30.000 students, which represents the 201st generation of future engineers. Through the values that have been formed here, through the teachers dedicated to academic excellence and through international recognition, UPB remains an important pillar for the Romanian education system.

Students from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest have won the first two places at the "Student Awards for Technical Innovation" of the International Electric & Automation Show. We are proud of our students' results and the ability of their teachers to motivate young talents.

The UPB community congratulates Corina - Ioana Cobzac, Cătălin Ghenea, Mădălina Boboc, Paul Cozma-Ivan, Victor Andrei Iriciuc, Daniel Marian Mănăsescu, Răzvan Drulă, Florin Stanciu, Vlad Andrei Hanganu
and Andra Daria Duță. Their results prove that we remain among the most competitive technical university in the country.

Highlights
Some 775 million adults lack minimum literacy skills. One in five adults are still not literate and two-thirds of them are women. 60.7 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly or drop out. September 8th was declared the international literacy day by UNESCO. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Celebrations take place in several countries.
There are about 225 indigenous languages in Europe – roughly 3% of the world's total. Most of the European languages are of Indo-European origin. As far as foreign language studies are concerned, English is currently the most popular foreign language in Europe, followed by German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish
The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
This year is particularly significant: It is the 20th Anniversary of the UN Resolution on the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
