On September 18, 2018 the UPB Rector, Mr. Mihnea Costoiu, has signed the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) during a festive ceremony held at the University of Salamanca in Spain.
UPB became member of the Magna Charta Observatory in 2018 after a thorough selection process which consisted in visits of the representatives of the association to UPB, discussions with the university representatives, students, alumni and the administrative staff.
Following the discussions, MCO invited Mr. Costoiu to sign the Magna Charta Universitatum during a festive ceremony. At the event were present all the rectors of the member universities, the representatives of the Salamanca and Bologna universities as well as other distinguished guests of the academic community.
His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia were the guests of honour at the celebratory event.
Magna Charta Universitatum is a document signed by 388 rectors from Europe and worldwide on September 18, 1988.
The document contains and promotes principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy and it marks 30 years of existence.
